Super Speed Lenses

These are 1980s Russian cinema lenses. The Lomo Super Speeds Spherical Set were built by LOMO (Leningrad Optical-Mechanical Association) At the time, these were the highest performing lenses being made in Russia, and their performance is still impressive today. Wide open they have low contrast, and highlights bloom. Stopped down to T2 and contrast and sharpness increases dramatically. At T2.8 they are very sharp. They flare easily and in a very beautiful way. Their unique irises allow you to render bokeh that is either circular or a dramatic flower petal shape depending on what stop you shoot at. This characteristic alone will make your work stand out in a world where 90% of modern lenses have rounded 9-bade apertures. Also worth noting, focus breathing is really well controlled in this set.

These Lomo Standard Speed spherical primes are the ultimate in vintage look. Saint Petersburg’s approximation of Cooke Panchros, these Lomos have classic, simple, optical designs that were produced during the Cold War throughout the 1980’s. Limited lens coatings produce colorful flares with intricate details and renders the fine sharpness with a gentle look that removes that clinical, digital edge. The bokeh is pleasing and has an “old world” appearance. If you are in search of a new retro look, Lomos will take you there like no other lens.

MIR-20M 20mm F3.5 is the widest rectilinear lens in Soviet lens line-up. It’s losely based on the Carl Zeiss Flektogon 20mm optical formula. The minimum focusing distance is just 0.18m, which makes it one of the shortest close focusing lenses in its class and a great lens for getting very close to your subject. If you want the maximum depth of field though, focusing to around 2m brings pretty much everything into focus!

MIR-10A 28mm F3.5 is a bit of a dark horse. It’s a less known Soviet lens, but very unique and worthy nevertheless. Its closest focusing distance very impressive at just 0.20m and it produces very shoot bokeh when wide open, though its aperture design, results in “sheriff star” bokeh when you step this lens down. This lens has minimal distortion, 3-dimensional feel and good sharpness even wide open, so it’s definitely worth considering.

MIR-1V 37mm F2.8 is a very popular wide/mid-range lens. It’s closely based on Zeiss Flektogon equivalent. It’s a favourite lens of many thanks to its incredible flares. From the factory this lens has one big downside: the closest focusing distance of just 0.70m making it somewhat unusable for capturing proper close-ups, but we’ve improved the closest focusing distance to 0.57mm as part of this rehousing, making it much more usable for close ups without compromising on image quality.

Vintage lenses
by IRON GLASS

Legendary lens HELIOS 44-2 58mm F2 is a cult classic; one of the most popular and loved lenses in history. It’s based on the legendary Zeiss’s Biotar 58mm, which explains why Helios 58mm is so well regarded. It pretty much has it all including the beautiful dreamy flares, very unique swirly bokeh and a great sharpness. Minimum focusing distance is 0.50m, so gets you pretty nice close-ups with this lens, making it very popular for mid/close portrait shots.

JUPITER-9 85mm F2 is yet another very popular Soviet lens and it competes the very popular Soviet Trio (37mm 58mm 85mmm). This 85mm is based on Zeiss Sonnar equivalent and shares most of the characteristics with the other 2 lenses it’s often used with. One of its best features is the 15 blade aperture, which keeps that bokeh nice and round at any F-stop. Even though at 0.8m its minimum focusing distance is not outstanding, it’s great for really tight “bohehlicios” shots!

TAIR-11A 135mm F2.8 is the most well regarded Soviet 135mm lens. it’s a very impressive telephoto lens, especially the updated A version, which had an improved sharpness and better close focusing distance than the original Tair-11. The focus throw of approx. 300° is also particularly useful with this lens helping you dial it in perfectly in a smooth and precise way. The highlight feature of this lens is of course the 20 blade aperture! It’s safe to say, that bokeh is absolutely perfect.

Uncoated lenses

Cooke Mini S4/i lenses are smaller in size, lighter in weight, have larger image circles, than their big brothers, the Cooke S4/i’s. Designed by the same team, built in the same factory, and made of the same materials, the Mini S4’s are a perfect match.

The Cooke Mini S4/i lenses are offered in three different combinations: uncoated rear element, uncoated front element and uncoated front&rear elements.

Uncoated elements are a wonderful way to give a more vintage feel to an image, exhibiting an increased sensitivity to lens flares, lower contrast from veiling flare, more flare artifacts in the optics chain, and a slightly softened edges.

Intensity of vintage effect increases with the addition of the uncoated element combination.

CANON nFD/nFD-L lenses are quite possibly the best-kept secret in 35mm motion picture prime lenses. These vintage lenses are one of the most sought-after lens sets on the market. The nFD/nFD-L were made in the 70’s and 80’s. Fast and small, they are widely renowned for being absolutely beautiful. They are sharp and have lower contrast than modern primes and have a unique smooth focus quality and color palette with gorgeous purple and orange flares, as well as uniquely striking bokeh and falloff. Canon DREAM
Lens 50mm

Canon 50mm T0.95 – legendary lens introduced in 1961 and also known as the “Dream Lens” rehoused by GL OPTICS. It produces “magical” soft glow with smooth out-of-focus areas and extremely shallow depth of field at its maximum aperture of f/0.95. The lens has classic rendering with natural colours and great contrasts. It is excellent for portraits with its glowing effect and becomes very sharp when stepping down the aperture like every other Leica lenses. This lens has minimum flare and chromatic aberration but it does have some vignetting.

This lens has 114° diagonal angle of view, which is one of the widest, except fisheye lenses. The ground and polished aspherical glass lens surface with the highest aspheric degree, which is famous in the optics history, is used on the front side of the second lens element to achieve super high image quality. The compact optical system including an aspherical lens element thoroughly corrects aberrations. The floating mechanism achieves sharp definition even at close focusing distance.
